Description
Lewisia rediviva (Bitterroot)
Delicate pink flowers
Bitterroot’s fleshy green cylindrical leaves start to grow in late winter from its taproot, and then startle you with it’s gorgeous pale to deep pink flowers after the leaves start to disappear. It goes totally dormant in summer so watch out that you don’t dig it up. Grows in rocky or well-drained dry soil. Needs to dry out in the summer. Photo by Mickie Chamness
