Quercus garryana (Garry oak)
Native tree
This slow-growing tree can be found growing along streams and slopes west of Yakima and Ellensburg and on the hills along the Columbia gorge. It grows well here given supplemental water. Leaf tops are bright glossy green while bottoms are pale green and fuzzy. In the fall, the leaves turn a beautiful yellow before becoming brown. Likes porous soil. Photo by Donna Lucas
