Description
Camassia leichtlinii (Great Camas)
Numerous deep blue-violet flowers with bright yellow pollen
A striking plant in a garden, numerous long, linear leaves grow first from a deep seated bulb. The single sturdy stem is capped by 4 to 8 inches of flowers that gradually open from bottom to top. Blooming in midspring, flowers are deep blue-violet and typically have bright yellow pollen on the stamens. Plant the bulb pointy end up in a hole at least twice as deep as the bulb is tall. Keep moist in spring, let it dry out and go dormant after blooming. Photo by Humble Roots Nursery
