Description
Geum triflorum (prairie smoke)
Ferny-leaved groundcover with unusual flowers
The pinkish purple flowers have a distinctive bell shape when open and nod downward. The seeds are light tufts of fluff, with long pale achenes on the seeds to help them float away. The “ferny” leaves stay low to the ground and the plant spreads slowly by rhizomes. Photo by Martine Purcell
