Description
Rudbeckia occidentalis (western coneflower)
Unusual cone-shaped flowerhead and large leaves are a striking combination
This large striking plant has a conical flowerhead of numerous tiny dark-colored disk florets. There are no ray florets. Swirling patterns of yellow pollen on the disk florets attract lots of pollinators. The large oval leaves give additional texture to the garden. It prefers moist loamy soil. Photo by Mickie Chamness
